Pieties was a director of the firm for several decades and remains with the firm as a consultant after stepping down as director on 28 February 2023.  Pieties specialises in the legal fields of property and conveyancing, litigation, mineral law and commercial law with past experience in the valuation of property.

With more than 40 years experience in the legal profession, Pieties has, in general, practiced in most of all areas of law to which a general rural practice is exposed.  He is the son of Pieter Andries Lange who was one of the founding attorneys of the present firm, Lange Carr & Wessels Inc., established in 1951. He has experience in commercial transactions regarding sales of shares with South African companies and companies abroad, and appointments as escrow agent in the sale of share matters. Pieties’ experience also includes civil litigation matters in the Magistrates’ and Supreme Courts.

He deems it his duty to uphold the principle of simple justice, and holds an appointment as commissioner of the Small Claims Court for more than twenty years. Pieties has acted as pro deo advocate in serious criminal matters, such as rape and murder, in instances where death sentences were imposed before such sentences were abolished.

He is presently appointed as chairperson of the Valuation Appeal Board for the Namakwa District Municipality with a jurisdiction area from Alexander Bay, Pella down to Calvinia, Sutherland and Fraserburg, and for the John Taolo Gaetsewe District which covers Hotazel, Kathu/Sishen, Kuruman and the Joe Morolong Municipalities. He has also served as chairperson of the Business Chamber, Round Table and the Upington Flying Club.

Pieties holds office as public officer for Putt Estates (Pty) Ltd which attends to the management administration of Volkswagen and Audi (Germany) interests in operations in the Northern Cape. Pieties has a flare for conducting legal relationships with foreigners, such as Spanish and French citizens, involved with the solar plants in the Upington area.

As a keen aviator, Pieties has held his private flying pilot’s licence for the last 39 years, flying his own aircraft. To date, he has kept fit by cycling so as to pass all annual physical examinations needed to maintain his flying licence. Although he is a South African citizen, he acquired his certificate of registration as a British citizen in May 2016.
